McGriff Hosts 2015 ExecutiveEdge Conference
McGriff hosted its twenty seventh annual ExecutiveEdge Conference at the Breakers Resort in West Palm Beach, FL between May 11 and 13. Participating partners included The ACE Group, AIG, AEGIS, Allied World, HCC, XL and Zurich North America. This experience offers guests an ideal offsite opportunity to meet with risk management peers, discuss emerging executive liability trends, and gain exclusive insight on market developments from senior executives and insurance industry leaders.
The keynote address was given by Ronan Ryan, Chief Strategy Officer of Investor’s Exchange (IEX) and the subject of Michael Lewis’ latest best seller, Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt. Ryan spoke on how technology is helping, hurting, and radically changing organizations and industries. With anecdotes from his own experience—from building high-speed networks for Wall Street power players, to “defecting” to IEX to create a level playing field in the market—Ryan helped the audience understand the role of technology (and ethics) in business. He explored the power of today’s tech advancements to move capitalism forward, while also weighing the question of corporate accountability, compelling businesses to consider their roles as responsible stewards of their clients’ assets.
An annual conference highlight is the chance to hear Dan Bailey of Bailey Cavalieri Law Firm. Dan is a foremost authority in the field of executive liability and is nationally recognized as an expert in directors’ and officer’ responsibilities, liabilities, indemnification, insurance and loss prevention. Dan provided a thorough update on recent litigation and legislation as well as critical considerations in D&O policy language and form construction. He has been a consistent ExecutiveEdge crowd pleaser for many years as attendees look to his analysis on trends and developments influencing the executive liability market and associated coverages.
TSC Advantage is a DC based cyber security firm that focuses on helping clients achieve better awareness and adaptability in addressing the constantly evolving cyber threat landscape. TSC provided clients with an impressive live demonstration on how threat actors use their diverse research and sleuthing skills to acquire information about unsuspecting employees for gaining unauthorized access to critical systems and data. In this session, Navigant executives also detailed for attendees how to organize and manage the process of collecting operational data to evaluate and calculate the potential financial impacts from various system security breaches. TSC and Navigant presenters provided a series of examples and suggestions for corporate Risk Managers to apply in spearheading the assessment of their companies’ cyber risk profiles, tips for becoming more agile in addressing these exposures, and how to quantify the ultimate cost within their own organizations.
In addition to the above, the conference rounded out with a market panel discussion involving senior underwriting executives from each sponsor organization, West Palm Beach outdoor activities and a mock Dancing with the Stars competition as evening entertainment. Select conference participants were challenged with choreographing their own dance routine with professional direction from Ritz Ballroom Dance Studio.
