BIRMINGHAM – McGriff said today that it has promoted executive vice president Milton Smith to National Director, Surety. In this new role, Smith will be responsible for leading the firm’s surety operations and driving the overall growth of the surety practice.
Smith joined McGriff in 2000. With more than 27 years of experience in the insurance industry, he specializes in commercial surety and surety for construction-related risks. He has been actively involved with the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) for more than two decades and has served as the chair for the national AGC Service and Supply Steering Committee and AGC’s Construction Leadership Council. On a local level, he has served as president of the Birmingham chapter’s Associates Board. He is also involved with the National Association of Surety Bond Producers, Associated Builders and Contractors, the Construction Financial Management Association, and various other industry-related organizations.
“Surety is a critical product line and a significant growth engine for McGriff, as it has broad application across all of our industry specialties,” said Read Davis, McGriff’s Chief Executive Officer, Specialty and Middle Market. “With his deep knowledge and experience in surety, proven leadership, and long-standing commitment to the industry, we are confident that Milton will bring these same qualities to this exciting new role.”
A Birmingham native, Smith earned his bachelor’s in finance and marketing from the University of Alabama. He also holds the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations. Smith can be reached at msmith@mcgriff.com or 205-581-9128.
